The Crash: A Moment of Terror

It was lap 12 of FP2 when disaster struck. Bridewell was pushing hard through the fast right-hander at Turn 5 when his Ducati Panigale V4 R suddenly lost traction. The bike slid across the tarmac at over 160 km/h before hitting the barrier, sending Bridewell flying through the air.

"One minute I was focused on setting a fast lap, the next I was in the gravel trap wondering what had happened," Bridewell told MotoNews. "The bike just snapped away from me. It happened so fast I didn't have time to react."

It was a big crash, but I'm okay. The team worked incredibly hard to get the bike ready for qualifying. I'm disappointed with the crash but proud of how we bounced back. To go from that to a podium is something special.

The Comeback: Team Oxford Racing's Finest Hour

While Bridewell was checked over by medical staff, his Oxford Racing team sprang into action. With the bike extensively damaged - fairing destroyed, frame bent, and suspension compromised - the crew faced an uphill battle to get their rider back on track.

"We worked through the night," said team manager Gary Johnson. "We had to replace the frame, swingarm, and most of the bodywork. But the guys didn't stop. They knew Tommy wanted to race, and we weren't going to let him down."

"I knew I had nothing to lose," Bridewell said. "The team had worked so hard to get me here, I wasn't going to let them down. I pushed as hard as I could, and somehow I found myself on the podium."

What This Means for the Championship

Bridewell's podium finish keeps him firmly in the championship hunt. With just four rounds remaining, the Oxford Racing rider is only 24 points behind leader Glenn Irwin. The battle for the 2025 BSB title is far from over.

"This result gives us a huge boost," Bridewell said. "We've shown that even when things go wrong, we can bounce back. The championship is still wide open, and I'm more determined than ever to fight for that title."

Looking Ahead: Brands Hatch

The next round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship takes place at Brands Hatch in two weeks' time. With the championship battle heating up, all eyes will be on Bridewell as he looks to continue his momentum.

"Brands Hatch is one of my favorite tracks," Bridewell said. "I've had good results there in the past, and I'm confident we can challenge for another podium."

Tommy Bridewell's Assen weekend will go down in BSB history as one of the greatest comebacks the series has ever seen. From a terrifying crash to a podium finish, it's a story of resilience, determination, and the incredible bond between a rider and his team.
